Amsterdam’s new left-wing party, De Fonk, made the reckless decision to invite Mohammed Khatib—a Muslim who openly aids Islamic terrorist groups, glorifies violence, and defends atrocities as “resistance”—exposing their dangerous embrace of extremism and making him a clear threat to societal stability and a symbol of radicalization.
Amsterdam has plunged into moral disarray with the emergence of De Vonk, a new left-wing political party. Claiming to advocate for the marginalized, the group sparked outrage at their inaugural event by inviting Mohammed Khatib, a notorious Islamic supremacist, as their guest speaker.
Khatib, the European coordinator of the radical NGO Samidoun, openly celebrates violence against Israeli civilians. On October 7, 2023, while Israelis mourned the deadly and torturous attacks on their citizens, Khatib hailed the day as a triumph. He described Hamas’s attacks on unarmed civilians, rapes, kidnappings, and slaughter of babies as a natural response from an oppressed people and claimed the state of Israel has no right to exist.
He has previously endorsed Islamic terror acts such as hijacking airplanes and bombing schools—all under the guise of “resistance.” Samidoun itself has faced international scrutiny, with calls for the group to be banned due to its Islamic radical ties. Yet, this is the man De Vonk chose to honor.
De Vonk’s radicalism is not limited to their decision to platform a figure like Khatib. The party itself, founded by former far-left Bij1 council members Jazie Veldhuyzen and Nilab Ahmadi, explicitly identifies as ‘anti-colonial’ and advocates for revolutionary politics, a free Palestine, and the fight against capitalism. The party positions itself ‘even more left than left,’ as described in their announcement press release, with a mission to stoke the flames of their ideological agenda. Their motto, ‘For solidarity, a free Palestine, and the fight against capitalism,’ underscores their alignment with extremism rather than mainstream progressive politics.
At the founding meeting of De Vonk, Jazie Veldhuyzen, the party’s leader, added fuel to the fire by publicly questioning law enforcement’s integrity, accusing police officers of “coke-snorting” and targeting minorities and activists. Despite later admitting the claim was unfounded, he pledged to push for mandatory drug testing for officers, further polarizing the discussion. This reflects De Vonk’s broader agenda of undermining societal trust in public institutions.
Additionally, Veldhuyzen’s inflammatory remark, “If Mohammed Khatib is a terrorist, what is Geert Wilders?” drew loud applause from the audience. This attempt to equate a Dutch politician known for opposing Islam with a man banned from the Netherlands for glorifying terrorism highlights De Vonk’s moral inversion and dangerous ideology.
Khatib’s Controversial Track Record
Mohammed Khatib’s controversies go far beyond his leadership role in Samidoun. Belgian authorities have labeled him an “extremist hate preacher” and are actively working to revoke his refugee status, citing security concerns over his inflammatory rhetoric and ties to terrorist organizations. Khatib, born in the Ain el-Helweh refugee camp in Lebanon, has long been a polarizing figure, with his public statements and actions drawing widespread condemnation.
In October 2024, the Netherlands banned Khatib from entering the country for two years due to his public glorification of terrorism and Samidoun’s documented ties to groups celebrating violence against civilians. Samidoun itself has been accused of being a propaganda arm for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a designated terrorist organization in numerous countries, including the EU, the US, and Canada. Khatib’s defense of atrocities such as the October 7, 2023, Hamas massacre, where terrorists killed 1,200 people and abducted over 250 hostages, has further cemented his reputation as a staunch supporter of violence.
Khatib’s words during a recent webinar, where he described the October 7 attack as a “glorious day,” have sparked outrage. The webinar, featuring Hamas leader Basem Naim alongside Khatib, highlighted his unapologetic pride in the massacre. Israeli Ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg, Idit Rosenzweig-Abu, condemned Khatib’s remarks and reminded audiences of the harrowing images and events of that day.

According to him “it was a glorious day” that made him proud.

Germany has taken a firm stance against Samidoun, dissolving its German branch in November 2023. German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser cited the organization’s support for groups like Hamas and its public celebrations of the October 7 attack. Samidoun members were seen distributing pastries in Berlin to celebrate the massacre, further illustrating their alignment with extremist ideologies.
Belgium’s Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration, Nicole de Moor, announced efforts to strip Khatib of his refugee status. “The asylum procedure is intended for people fleeing war or unjust persecution. There is no place for people who represent a danger to society,” de Moor stated, basing her request on intelligence from security services.
Khatib’s agenda is clear. From justifying the targeting of civilians to glorifying terrorist acts, he has consistently aligned himself with Islamic terror. His leadership in Samidoun has transformed the organization into a mouthpiece for groups like Hamas and the PFLP, drawing international scrutiny and action.
De Vonk’s decision to invite a figure as polarizing and dangerous as Mohammed Khatib is a reflection of their disregard for the values of peace and human rights they claim to champion. By offering a platform to someone whose rhetoric celebrates violence and incites hatred, De Vonk has shown their true colors. This is not about amplifying marginalized voices; it’s about legitimizing extremism.
When asked why Mohammed Khatib, who is banned from entering the Netherlands and could only participate via video, was invited, De Vonk representatives defended their decision. They claimed it was essential to “let Palestinian [and Hamas] voices be heard” amid what they described as “censorship.”
This defense collapses under scrutiny when compared to Khatib’s rhetoric. He distorts international law to justify violence, arguing that the oppressed have a right to use force. However, where does international law permit targeting school buses or civilians?
Listen to the following interviews conducted by Dutch broadcaster PowNed with members of De Vonk:
THE SILENCE OF DUTCH POLITICIANS
Where are the elected representatives in the Tweede Kamer? The lawmakers tasked with upholding the integrity and security of the Netherlands remain eerily silent. Have they grown indifferent to the disintegration of the moral fabric of this country? Or worse, are they complicit through inaction?
Their silence is deafening. It suggests either an inability to address the growing normalization of Islamic terror rhetoric or a willful ignorance of the consequences. This inaction emboldens groups like De Vonk to provide platforms to individuals who condone violence against supporters of Israel and Jews.
LAW ENFORCEMENT: COMPLICIT OR ABSENT?
And what of Dutch law enforcement agencies? Once trusted guardians of safety, they are now conspicuously absent. Are they turning a blind eye, or worse, cooperating behind closed doors? History reminds us of dark times when silence and complicity enabled atrocities. Have we learned nothing?
The Reality We Face
De Vonk’s defense of Khatib reflects a sinister agenda—not dialogue, but the amplification of imported Jew-hatred and Islamic radicalism. The party’s platform, coupled with years of reckless immigration policies by left-wing politicians, has transformed Amsterdam into a haven for antisemitism and radical violence. The consequences are clear: violent attacks, open calls for terror, and a society under constant threat.
De Vonk’s so-called “nuanced analysis” of events like October 7 is nothing more than a thin veil for justifying terror. Amsterdam is at a crossroads: will it stand firm against the normalization of hatred and violence, or will it surrender to those who glorify terrorism?
Accountability
The invitation of Mohammed Khatib by Amsterdam’s new left-wing party, De Vonk, is not an isolated incident—it is emblematic of a disturbing trend. Recently, the city bore witness to a modern-day “Jew hunt,” where Israeli soccer fans were violently targeted in the streets. By platforming Khatib—a man who glorifies terrorism and celebrates massacres—De Vonk has made its alignment with Islamic Jew-haters.
This alarming trajectory is the direct result of political negligence and a betrayal of Western values by leaders who have abandoned their duty to protect society. If left unchallenged, this normalization of hate will continue to erode the city’s foundations and threaten its future.
