Belgian MEP Assita Kanko addressed the European Parliament with a powerful condemnation of Hamas and raised serious concerns about the actions of some left-wing European leaders. Kanko reminded the Parliament that Hamas is a terrorist organization recognized as such by the European Union due to its repeated acts of violence, terrorism, and cruelty. She emphasized the threat Hamas poses, not only to Israelis and Palestinians but also to European security.
Kanko criticized fellow MEP Remma Assan, a left-wing politician who recently attended a pro-Hamas demonstration in Jordan. During this protest, participants glorified Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, chanted for jihad, and expressed threats against Jewish people. Kanko highlighted that Assan not only attended the event but also shared videos of it on social media, enthusiastically supporting the cause.
In her speech, Kanko questioned how European Parliament representatives are supposed to feel safe when elected officials align themselves with organizations that are classified as terrorist threats. She urged her colleagues to take a stand against Hamas and its supporters, reiterating that the EU’s recognition of Hamas as a terrorist organization is based on its long history of bloodshed, including the atrocities committed on October 7.
Kanko called for the European Parliament to stand united with the innocent victims, hostages, and European citizens who value freedom and security, clearly stating that Europe must reject any sympathy or support for Hamas or similar Islamic terrorist organizations.
