Islamists Kill 12 in New Attack in North Eastern D.R. Congo

Islamist militants killed at least 12 people in the Christian-majority Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) on August 10 after launching a fresh attack in the north-eastern province of North Kivu.

The death toll from the assault by members of the Islamic State Central Africa Province (ISCAP, also known as the Allied Democratic Forces) on Mukonia village is expected to rise.

Area mayor Nicole Kikuku explained that several villagers remain unaccounted for.

Attacks by ISCAP have increased in North Kivu in recent months.

At the end of May the terrorist group launched a week-long onslaught of violence, killing more than 80 people. Survivors said many died as they attempted to run away from the militants who were armed with guns and machetes.

More than 70 lost their lives in a series of renewed attacks in July.

An estimated 5,500 people have been killed by ISCAP in the DRC since 2017. The violence is centered in the north-east region in North Kivu and the neighboring province of Ituri.

Lift up in prayer those who mourn loved ones lost in the latest attacks by Islamists in north-eastern DRC. Ask that a solution is found to the long-running violence and that Christians can live in peace.
