ISIS Praises Wolves for Taylor Swift Concert Cancellations Mocks Al Qaeda and Taliban for Ineffectiveness

On August 7, 2024, American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift canceled her three concerts scheduled in Vienna, Austria, from August 8-11, 2024. This decision followed a security alert from Austrian authorities regarding a foiled suicide attack plot targeting her shows.

Authorities arrested three teenage suspects who were found with chemicals, explosive devices, and detonators at one of their homes. Additionally, police discovered ISIS propaganda material, €21,000 in counterfeit money, machetes, knives, and anabolic steroids.

In a report by MEMRI, it was highlighted that the pro-ISIS Bariqa News Agency posted on Telegram, confirming that the suspects were acting as ISIS lone wolves. They celebrated the concert cancellations as evidence of ISIS’s growing threat and reach.

“ISIS Wolves Threatened Swift’s Concerts”

The pro-ISIS Telegram channel also mocked jihadi rivals Al-Qaeda and the Afghan Taliban for failing to inspire lone-wolf attacks in the West. The post ridiculed Al-Qaeda supporters for taking credit for the plot against Swift’s concert, stating: “The unbeliever American singer Taylor Swift’s concerts in Austria were canceled due to threats from the apostate Al-Qaeda militia… sorry! Due to the threats of the apostate Taliban militia… Are you seriously buying this – her three concerts were canceled due to threats from the wolves of the Islamic State.”

Concerts As A Target

This incident is part of a broader pattern of ISIS targeting music venues in Europe. On March 22, ISIS claimed responsibility for a deadly attack at Crocus City Hall, a popular concert venue on the outskirts of Moscow. Over the years, music venues have become frequent targets for mass attacks by ISIS operatives. In November 2015, ISIS gunmen attacked the Bataclan Theater in Paris, killing at least 130 people. In May 2017, ISIS claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England, killing 22 people.
