Convicted U.S. Cop Killer Mumia Abu Jamal Calls College Encampment from Prison to Urge Support for Hamas Video

Mumia Abu-Jamal, a convicted cop-killer and former Black Panther, ignites controversy as he addresses Hamas supporters from behind bars, urging solidarity with Hamas/Palestine and highlighting the radicalization within the encampments, which, while ostensibly focused on the Israel-Hamas conflict, serve as opportunities for radicals within America to wage war on and seek to destroy the nation.

Black Panther and convicted cop-killer Wesley Cook, also known as Mumia Abu-Jamal, addressed Hamas supporters from SCI Mahanoy, a maximum-security prison in Frackville, Pennsylvania. He called into The City University of New York (CUNY) -The City College (CCNY) encampment in New York, with students broadcasting his call over the encampment audio system.

Abu-Jamal urged his fellow radicals to continue speaking out against “terrorist” Israel and to shake the earth until the people of Gaza, Palestine, and the West Bank can see your solidarity with them.”

Abu-Jamal, a co-founder of Philadelphia’s Black Panther Party chapter in 1968, was convicted of the December 1981 murder of Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner and initially sentenced to death.

In 2001, a judge overturned the sentence, citing inconsistencies in the original sentencing process. In 2011, the state abandoned efforts to reinstate the death penalty sentence, and he is currently serving a life sentence.

Mumia Abu-Jamal’s case has attracted attention from left-wing radical activists advocating for his release, claiming a wrongful conviction.

Before the events leading to his conviction, Abu-Jamal was working as a cab driver in 1981. Abu-Jamal was a founding member of the Philadelphia Black Panther Party and was linked to the violent, anti-government, anti-police group known as MOVE.

On December 9, his brother, William Cook, was stopped by police for driving the wrong way on a one-way street without headlights. Abu-Jamal intervened, claiming the officer was assaulting Cook with a flashlight. The altercation resulted in both the officer and Abu-Jamal being shot. Officer Daniel Faulkner died, leading to Abu-Jamal’s murder conviction.

Multiple witnesses testified they saw Abu-Jamal shoot the officer, and others claimed he confessed to the shooting in the hospital. Witnesses testified in court that Cook stated, “I shot the motherfucker, and I hope the motherfucker dies.”

A gun registered to Abu-Jamal with five spent rounds was found at the scene, and bullet fragments in the officer’s body were consistent with that weapon. Neither Abu-Jamal nor his brother testified at the trial.

The widow of Officer Daniel Faulkner maintains a website advocating for her husband’s honor.
